Addictive Opium

Quaint oriental Opium

Quaint oriental Opium

Artfully mixing memorabilia from Vietnam, Malaysia and beyond, the newly opened Opium on changkat bukit bintang brings an exotic / oriental feel to the party street.

The neon sign ‘Eat drink Man woman’ charged with references – and promises – lights the path to an al fresco area where colourful chairs mix with high wooden tables, cute indochinese lamps spreading their vintage lights on a mixed crowd of customers using feathery fans  to cool down on hazy days.

Inside a huge wooden table welcomes big groups, and more intimate parties can seat at secluded tables, opium like bed and cosy booths. The general atmosphere is chic yet laid back, refined and relaxing.

The salad maniac that I am fell in love with the scrumptious Fern leaf salad with grilled prawns, a light and succulent mix of ginger flowers, local greens, coconut and prawns seasoned in a nutty hemp oil with a light grassy taste. The dim sum are not to be missed – warm mouthful of expertly prepared dim sum spoiling the palate with delicate flavors. The crispy duck noodles are, to put it simply, to die for. Crispy noodles, moist duck broth and spring onions make a fine balanced dish.

Dishes are a blend of traditional recipes with contemporary, innovative flavours and what results is a more sophisticated take on the asian food we have come to know.

A fancy wine selection is available, the refreshing beverage being served in traditional low cups – quite intriguing and exotic for westerners, and very quaint.

If you usually avoid the touristy changkat, make an exception and stop by the sleek Opium – a delicious and dreamy oriental evening awaits you
