Under the guidance of the immensely talented chef Christian Bauer, Cantaloupe @ Troika SkyDining has it all – central location, breathtaking view on the skyline, fine service and excellent food. It exudes an air of elegance with its arty furniture surrounded by huge floor to ceiling glass panels that allow a gorgeous light in, while creating a very intimate dining atmosphere at night. It thus works perfectly for all occasions – business lunch, romantic date or a celebration between friends.
It is my favorite restaurant, hence I was really eager to try the newest stunning proposition of Cantaloupe ; an express gourmet lunch with 8 courses, for 120RM++. The invention and creativity of the chef is blooming in this degustation menu made with seasonal ingredients and re-designed with genius every month. Ours included for instance a gazpacho of Green pea with mint foam, pickled mushrooms and scallop tartar – an heavenly and surprising pairing that works perfectly. The cannelloni made with crab and avocado could have seemed classic at first sight, until you taste the rocket oil and caviar that goes with it and create an explosion of savors. Between the fish – a dover sole revisited – and the meat – a fleshy grilled sirloin along with its delicious foie gras – a sorbet of pineapple granite and caramel cinnamon is offered, the ideal palate cleanser that reminded us of the famous French trou Normand.
If it is your first time there, be sure to try the caviar, panacotta and lemon tapioca along with salmon carpaccio & Hendricks gin: it is utterly mind blowing, a spectacular creation. The Foie gras en mode satay is also not to be missed. The wine selection is of the highest standard – I would recommend to indulge in a Chateauneuf du Pape in it’s white version; brilliance.
Cantaloupe is stellar, swanky, splendid – and a fine way to splurge for a special occasion.
