Labuan Bajo & Komodo islands 8 must do
Gate to the Komodo national park and its color-saturated islands, the buzzing town of Labuan Bajo has a high concentration of italian restaurants, diving schools and laid back vibes. The best restaurant? Found it. A serious diving center for the most beautiful dive ever? spotted. Best (and cheap) massage in town? we tell you all below.
Dive at : Blue Marlin Dive center: institution on the Gili islands, pioneer of the live onboard in the Komodo islands, the famous Blue Marlin has a rocking new place in Labuan Bajo. The dive instrcutors are top notch, diving boats silent and confortable, and between two extraordinary dives in the translucent water, homemade cookies and tea add to the bliss. Dive with professionals or don’t dive, and do that in style with Blue Marlin
Chill out lunch at: Mediterraneo: we love the laid back atmosphere and efficient service of this restaurant, where guests can either chill out on the higher part on the beans bags, or enjoy a seated dinner at recycled wooden tables. Salads are scrumptious, flavorful and very refreshing, Another big hit: pizza with Ruccola on top. Ideal for lunch
Pamper at: Flores spa: trekking, diving and other island related activities are the perfect excuses for a massage in the expert hands of Flores spa therapists. Traditional massages available, along with scrubs using heavenly smelling products based on honey and coconut, rejuvenating facials and more. Stop by and reconnect with yourself.
Excursions to spot the famous Komodo dragons are done mostly by local agencies – to date, we haven’t found the one, with a good fee / prestation ratio – slow boats, usually crowded, leaving late and thus making it hard to spot the dragons. Best option? Mix a dive and an excursion to Rinca island, dive centers usually propose that every other day.
Relax at: Bintang Flores Hotel: no diving or excursion today, just want to keep cool? Head to Bintang Flores hotel and pay the 50000IDR access fee to the tropical pool facing the sea. The water is crystal clear, sand a bright yellow reminding you to be easy breezy. Cool day by the pool guaranteed,
Splurge at: Made In Italy: stuffed with Nasi goreng and gado gado? Need to celebrate a special event? Stop by Made In Italy and make a booking in the best restaurant of Flores.Under the guidance of the talented chef Marco – an extremely inspired chef from Firenze – homemade pasta, excellent pizzas, fresh ricotta flown daily from Bali
and lush vegetables from his farm make for an unrivalled symphony of stunning
dishes. The wine list is, to put it simply, outstanding.
Dream on : Skybar: sunsets are breath taking on Labuan Bajo bay and not to be missed. Head to the confidential Skybar on the main street, just few meters away from Made In Italy. Skip the cocktails and opt for a good old Bintang, sit back and enjoy the view
Sleeping: many options there, depending on your expectations and wallet. Opt for Bintang Flores hotel for clean and beautiful rooms with bright floor to ceiling windows. Stay in town at the brand new Blue Marling Dive center – but be aware of the fool sewage smell that sadly ruins a bit the experience in the evening/night. Or go to secluded resorts such as Silvya, further down the bay for an intimate moment
Komodo National park was elected one of the new 7 wonders on earth, and we can only agree. Enjoy this bit of paradise responsibly! No-no to trash everywhere and a big massive yes! to taking back with you on Flores your rubbish. Have fun x
