Barefoot lifestyle in paradise

Pool in the coconut plantation

I have been to Koh Tao for the first time six years ago, and instantly fell in love with this remote Thai island, achingly beautiful. I was constantly dreaming of going back to experience once again its serene yet lush and vibrant atmosphere, enjoying the barefoot lifestyle in paradise.

And I went back… and it exceeded my wildest expectations by staying at the secluded Haad Tien resort, on the most beautiful white sand beach of the island: shark bay. The locally owned resort has been built around the old coconuts plantation and frangipanis trees, respecting their presence and the surroundings wildlife. It creates a very natural oasis with high standard bungalows and beach villas, that are integrated on the island, not destroying it – as sadly many other concrete resorts do. The getaways villas are my favorite with their wood and glass panels that make you feel you are actually outside, and the very zen and luxurious interior – the cherry being the outside covered bed ideal for a lazy siesta.

The main restaurant, Insea, is located close to the entrance and has gorgeous tables overlooking the water – starting your day having breakfast on one of them after a swim in crystal clear water is definitely the best start for another day in paradise. Outside guests are welcome, and can enjoy the classic thai dishes (delicious Tom Yam soup and green curry) and western food – you shouldn’t miss the spicy al dente spaghetti all’arrabiata. Another restaurant is located close to the pool to enjoy lighter snacks such as burgers, and cocktails by the sea – for guests only.

Imagine yourself there, feel the beauty and the serenity of the place…
