Eat a lot @ Lot 10 Hutong
“Shop-a-lot” is a motto in Kuala Lumpur, but I would say “eat-a-lot” of quality food is even more important. Especially in Malaysia where the ‘makan’ culture (food culture) is the most crucial point of your day, may you be asian or western.
So I read in the usual traveling guides when I arrived in KL about this hawker food court that basically hosts only the best hawkers selected from the street of KL. I went by Lot 10 Hutong, and was a bit disappointed to see so many tourists, I left and didn’t try anything – even though there are around 20 food stalls. But recently since many of my local friends have been telling me about the fantastic pork soup they had there, or porridge, anything – you name it, I have decided to overcome my prejudice.
Hence this post, I have to say: go there, this is definitely a place where you will find typical malaysian food, prepared in an old fashion, with fresh ingredients and by people that are very good at doing it. Oh, also, did I mention it is really affordable and the atmosphere is actually very pleasant and lively – the crowds of japanese tourists mixing with the locals trying to have their lunch in peace is actually quite fun.
It is hard to make your selection though… so many choices and perfumes tempting you! One of my favorite is definitely the famous Ho Weng Kee for its savory Wantan noodle soup – the broth is flavory and contains the right amount of chives, the wantan wrappers and filling are made in front of you and are perfectly cooked to deliver the right texture and taste – bliss.
Desserts and fresh fruit juices are also available. Also, if you still have a tiny place in your tummy after this wantan, try the dim sum sold by the woman going through the alleys with her trolley. They are deliciously fresh.
